# Shrink-wrap vs a winter boat cover

Shrink-wrap is tight, cheap per year and thrown away in spring. A fitted canvas cover with a frame costs more once and lasts many winters. Both work if they are done right.

## Compared

| | Shrink-wrap | Fitted winter cover |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | from $16/ft every year | Higher once; lasts several winters |
| Snow | Tight and pitched, sheds well | Needs a frame to shed snow |
| Moisture | Needs vents | Breathable fabric |
| Labour | Done by the yard | You or the yard, each fall |
| Waste | Plastic to recycle each spring | Reused |

## Questions

**Is a regular trailering cover enough?**

Not for snow. Without a frame, snow and water pool on it and it tears or stretches.
