## The boating year here

Many Calgary boats are trailered to BC lakes and to Alberta lakes; boats entering Alberta from the east or south border are subject to inspections from May 1 to September 30.

- Launch May; haul-out October.

## What storage looks like here

Calgary's driveway rules (3 days at a time, none from November to March) make off-site storage close to the city the practical choice for anyone with a boat.

Calgary owners often keep a trailer boat, so storage mixes driveway space (limited by city rules), outdoor lots and indoor heated or cold units. Demand is driven by strict front-driveway limits, long winters and the number of boats trailered to BC lakes.

## Keeping the boat at home

Calgary treats boats, and trailers used to transport them, as recreational vehicles. From April 1 to October 31 an RV may be on a front driveway for up to 3 consecutive days, then must leave the property for at least 48 hours, and must be at least 1 m from the sidewalk and not block corner visibility. From November 1 to March 31 front-driveway parking is not permitted. Detached trailers cannot be on streets or alleys. Fines range from $400 to $10,000. New rules took effect April 1, 2025.

Rules change, so confirm with the city before you park for the winter. [Read the city page](https://www.calgary.ca/bylaws/recreational-vehicles.html).
