# Seasonal boat slips and dockage

In popular harbours the good slips go to returning boaters, and waitlists run for years. Give us LOA, beam and draft and the water you want to be on, and we look for slips that open up, including smaller marinas you may not know.

## What kind of spot

- Seasonal slip: Your own space on a dock for the boating season, usually May to mid-October in Ontario and Quebec. Priced per foot of LOA or slip length, whichever is longer.
- Mooring ball: A buoy in the harbour. Cheaper than a slip; you need a dinghy or launch service to reach the boat.
- Year-round moorage: Common on the BC coast, where boats stay in the water all winter. Priced monthly.
- Transient dockage: Nightly or weekly stays while cruising. Useful as a stopgap while you wait for a seasonal slip.

## What a marina will ask

- LOA: Length overall, bow pulpit to swim platform
- Beam: Widest point, rub rail to rub rail
- Draft: Depth below the waterline, drive or keel down
- Air draft: For bridges and covered slips
- Power: 30 A or 50 A shore power
- Insurance: Liability coverage, usually required

Have these ready and a marina can tell you yes or no on the spot.

## Slip prices

- Seasonal slip: from $55/ft per season
- [Annual moorage](https://boatparking.ca/locations/british-columbia/): from $15/ft per month on an annual contract
- [Dry stack (rack) storage](https://boatparking.ca/storage/dry-stack-storage/): from $100/ft per season

Starting prices in CAD before tax, from published marina and port rates and market estimates, October 2026. Your boat, the yard and the dates set the final price.

Seasonal slip prices vary more than anything else in boating. A downtown Toronto slip can cost two to three times one on a Kawartha lake. See [regional prices](https://boatparking.ca/pricing/).

## Slip questions

**Why are marinas full?**

Seasonal slips renew to the same owners year after year, so new space opens only when someone sells or leaves. Larger boats (35 ft and up) and wide-beam boats are hardest to place.

**Should I get on a waitlist?**

Yes, at two or three marinas, and ask each how many names are ahead of you. Meanwhile we look for open slips elsewhere. See [how to get a boat slip](https://boatparking.ca/guides/how-to-get-a-boat-slip/).

**Does a slip include winter storage?**

Often not. Many marinas offer a package price if you store with them, and give returning winter customers priority for slips.

**Is dry stack an alternative?**

For powerboats up to about 30 ft, yes. The marina launches the boat when you call. See [dry stack storage](https://boatparking.ca/storage/dry-stack-storage/).
