How much boat storage costs in Canada

What changes the price
Length and beam
Most yards charge per foot of LOA, often with a minimum. City marinas may charge LOA × beam, so a wide pontoon costs more than a narrow sailboat of the same length.
Protection
Outdoor on the hard is cheapest. Cold indoor buildings cost more, heated buildings much more.
What is bundled
Some winter prices include haul-out, launch and wrap. Others list each one. Compare the total, not the headline rate.
Location
Downtown Toronto and the BC coast cost the most. Rural yards an hour from the water are often half the price.
Extras
Winterizing, mast work, shore power over winter, bottom paint and spring commissioning all add up.
Per foot, per square foot, per month
Per foot: from $60/ft for a 24 ft boat is $1,440. Per square foot: a 24 × 8.5 ft boat is 204 sq ft, so a $6.50/sq ft rate is about $1,326. Per month: BC dry moorage or lot parking is often quoted monthly; multiply by the months you need.
Ask every yard for a total for your boat, with haul-out, launch, wrap and tax, so the quotes compare.

What is the cheapest way to store a boat in winter?
On its own trailer in an outdoor lot, or on the hard at a rural yard, with your own cover. Expect from $300 per winter for trailer parking.
Is indoor storage worth the extra cost?
For newer boats, classics and boats with upholstery and electronics, often yes: no wrap, less UV and fewer snow problems. See indoor vs outdoor.
Do I pay in advance?
Usually. Many marinas ask for a deposit when you book and the balance before haul-out; some want the full season up front.
