What storage looks like here

Calgary's driveway rules (3 days at a time, none from November to March) make off-site storage close to the city the practical choice for anyone with a boat.

Calgary owners often keep a trailer boat, so storage mixes driveway space (limited by city rules), outdoor lots and indoor heated or cold units. Demand is driven by strict front-driveway limits, long winters and the number of boats trailered to BC lakes.

Keeping the boat at home

Calgary treats boats, and trailers used to transport them, as recreational vehicles. From April 1 to October 31 an RV may be on a front driveway for up to 3 consecutive days, then must leave the property for at least 48 hours, and must be at least 1 m from the sidewalk and not block corner visibility. From November 1 to March 31 front-driveway parking is not permitted. Detached trailers cannot be on streets or alleys. Fines range from $400 to $10,000. New rules took effect April 1, 2025.

Rules change, so confirm with the city before you park for the winter. Read the city page.
